Welcome to Own The Dodgers
This website was started to bring fans together to get public ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers! That’s right; the fans will own the team. The proposal is to pay $800 million for the Dodgers in cash. This includes the team, the stadium, parking lots, and all other assets of the team. Here are a few key points to keep in mind:
- Public ownership means the Dodgers will be a non-profit public company, owned by the fans. Profits will be reinvested back into the team and the stadium. The team will be purchased in cash, ridding the Dodgers of any debt. Fans will be able to purchase shares of the team; however, the shares will NOT be traded on an exchange. There will be an off-season secondary market, created by the Team, to facilitate trades for hardship cases.
- Public ownership is the best way to reconnect the fans and community to the team. We have seen, this year, the negative effects that fan apathy can have on the team and the Stadium.
- This model is the same model the Green Bay Packers have been using since 1923. They have had more championships than any other team in NFL history, which proves that a publicly-owned team can be the most successful team.
Now is the time to take this team back. There are two types of owners in the sports world: owners who want to win and owners who want to make money. Which are you? Let’s start reinvesting in the team and not into the pocket of some owner who doesn’t care. Instead of subsidizing his lifestyle, profits will be used to attract free agents and reduce costs that fans endure like sky-high parking rates and concessions prices. There is no reason why the Dodgers should not be in contention for a World Series title every year, and public ownership is the way to get them there.
